June was a major adjustment in expectations and learning to dwell in the presence of the Almighty in a whole new way.

Celebration of Life of Sandra Dunn
June started with a bang. Sandra Dunn, a South African woman whom I first met in the Caserta hospital when I went to go pray for her, transitioned from this life into the arms of Jesus. Her sweet husband, Domenico, and her daughter, Callan, were left behind to grieve their loss and celebrate her life. My heart grieves and celebrates with them all.
Planting at the Farm
The day following the Celebration of Life, we got up early and joined the D’Andrea family to plant 400 plants in rows in one of their fields. It was hot and we took a riposo (or rest) for the hottest part of the afternoon for a pasta lunch and nap and then finished out the planting before dark.
VBS @ Carney Park
We got one day of rest and then I flew to Oklahoma in the US to join my mother and sister in her fight for life while my children and John headed to Carney Park to assist the staff of Celebration Italia in hosting the first ever VBS all in English for the American military.
5 Weeks in Oklahoma!
My sister and I were blessed with the gift of life for my mother! I left Italy not knowing that she would make it through the weekend and God breathed life into her, Sunday, June 7th, Pentecost. Her life was extended and she began to heal and not decline in the hospital. On this day, a shift happened in my mother and within hours, she began to walk and use the restroom after being basically in bed for two weeks with sepsis. Two days later, we bailed her out of the hospital and started a 5 week journey of healing and transitioning.
I spent the remainder of the month of June sorting and packing my mother’s life belongings up to transition her into an assisted living facility. I helped care for my mom alongside her friend, Sherry Streetly, who aided her physically while I worked on the house. My sister and I separated out the part of her estate that she was not going to take with her. On the weekends, I took a break and saw Kate, Janine, and my in-laws. In the in between of packing, I heard stories of family heirlooms, began watching The Chosen with my mom, spent Jesus time out doors as much as possible in the early morning hours, and cried many tears. My sister and I grew closer and healed some as we processed some of our grief and our childhoods.
God provided a plan for the next steps in this process, renters for her home to help cover the costs of her stay at the assisted living facility, estate sale people to take care of the remainder of her belongings, and He miraculously wrapped up all the loose ends left hanging before I left town at the beginning of July.
