July News

July was an intense month for our family. I settled into the understanding that I would not be returning to Italy until September 3rd, 3 MONTHS from the time I left in June. I have never been gone that long from my children before.

  • We celebrated the final days of my mom’s life in Falconhead, OK.

  • I hugged the necks of family and friends while on my breaks in TX.

  • We moved my mom into Elmbrook, the assisted living home in Ardmore, OK.

  • My family lived a slow life without a car in Italy but still managed to have some fun.

  • I arrived in WA to begin my two month long adventure.

  • I bounced between my Hansville house and Keyport, thanks to Doc, due to the Airbnb bookings that I kept through August.

  • Lauretta celebrated her 14th birthday at the Capua Ampitheater.

  • I attended Sara’s LiveWire Camp in Sequim, WA as a dean over ~50 kids.

  • and the moving of our WA home began…

The final days in Falconhead

The Thackerville Monday night Bible study group came to pray over my mother.

Sherry danced and singed to her own music in worship while my mom walked around the house to build strength.

We took many golf cart rides, listening to music, to watch the sunset over the 5 weeks I was there. They were so lovely and one of my favorite memories.

This was a rainy day and Sherry and I drove to the gas station up the road for a hamburger in our working clothes, laughing and reflecting. It was one of my favorite moments that took me back to my childhood.

Move in Day to Elmbrook!

The team: Sherry kept Mom away (a full time job!) while Tiara and I led and directed a team of boys and men to load, unload, load, unload, and finally load some more. Tiara won the bet that we would finish before dinner! Those boys had no idea what they had signed up for because they unpacked her completely also and hauled off the boxes. We did reward them at the Chinese buffet for a late lunch!

The balcony of plants and peace.

I put together a pot of 3 cacti on her balcony to memorialize this move. I name them Tiara, Rachael, and Charlotte and painted a picture.

All three of us are definitely prickly, vibrant, and can withstand harsh environments. We are also beautiful together.

Unexpected hugs from friends and family in TX

My friend, Heather Chan, moved to GA from TX and I got to say goodbye.

My nephew Harrison, who calls me “Auntie Rachael”, and his Mer-Mer. I love this precious gem of genuine faith and love.

These two people- Mer-Mer and Pa-Pa- are my favorite people. I love them so much. I cannot have done life without them. I tell Mary that I want to be just like her when I grow up all the time.

Meanwhile- The Slow Life in italy

They walked to the piazza to the town festivals, even late at night!

Maggie and Lauretta rode the bus out to the beach with Marianna D’Andrea and her sisters.

I arrived in WA!

I went out on the boat crabbing in the Pudget Sound with Dave and Debbie, the best neighbors ever!

I traveled to Chehalis for a Celebration of Life for Diane Abarta with my oldest daughter, Sara, and Delaina.

Lauretta’s 14th Birthday

This is the Capua Ampitheater, where Spartacus trained.

John, Maggie, Nathanael, Lauretta, Miriam, and Tirzah. (in order of age)

My gorgeous girl, Lauretta, and her master photographer sister, Maggie.

A Day with Doc~ the best roommate ever!

This is my quirky, intellectually well-read conversationalist, generous, and gentle roommate, Scott. Everyone calls him Doc. Thanks to him, I had a car and home the entire two months. In between my Airbnb bookings every week, I stayed with him. This picture is a metaphor for our time together and it really speaks to who he is: a lover of flowers, fine drinks, food, and fashion. He and I share a love of naps. Thank you, Doc, for your gift of friendship!

Summer Camp in Sequim, WA

I painted this for the LiveWire Camp. It was a blend of their logo and graphic artwork.

This is Crescent Lake on the Olympic Peninsula.

I was the dock manager for boat day.

Some of the camp leadership at the lake.

Some of the Camp leadership at the Kingsway Church.

Alysse and Sara are the co-directors of the kids’ camp, LiveWire.

This picture, taken at the end of camp, speaks to the hard work they did all week. A sleeping team leader, a van full of camp leftovers, and ducks…. lol Quack, quack

and moving begins…

July ended well and began August well. We sold the 1950 Pontiac!!! Moving day #2, here we come…
